Anne Frank

I'm pretty sure anyone who could read this probably knows who Anne Frank is. But to those who was probably sleeping during history classes (although i dont remember having a discussion about her during any of subjects), Anne Frank was a German-Jewish girl who wrote a diary while in hiding with her family and four friends in Amsterdam during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. Her diary, saved during the war by one of the family’s helpers, Miep Gies, was first published in 1947. Today, her diary has been translated into 67 languages and is one of the most widely read books in the world.
Anne Frank is one of my favorite historical icons of all time. I was very touched while watching her story being featured on TV one day. Sometimes, when I feel down and depressed, I think about her. I think about her strength, her positive outlook in life, her optimism. Although I sometimes really find it hard, I try to believe that nobody is born evil.
Here is my favorite excerpt from her diary:

"It’s a wonder I haven’t abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.
It’s utterly impossible for me to build my life on a foundation of chaos, suffering and death. I see the world being slowly transformed into a wilderness, I hear the approaching thunder that, one day, will destroy us too, I feel the suffering of millions. And yet, when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that everything will change for the better, that this cruelty too shall end, that peace and tranquility will return once more" - July 15, 1944
